Description
Smooth Muscle is a type of Muscle found in the Digestive System, the Blood Vessels, Respiratory System and the Urinary System. Smooth Muscle is under the control of the Autonomic Nervous System - activation of Alpha-Adrenergic Receptors generally causes contraction of Smooth Muscles (except for Intestinal Smooth Muscles) [1] while activation of Beta-Adrenergic Receptors generally causes relaxation of Smooth Muscles. The Myofibrils of Smooth Muscle lack striations and contract more slowly than Skeletal Muscle.
