Description
Prednisone is a Pharmaceutical Glucocorticosteroid Drug - a synthetic, dehydrogenated form of Cortisone. In terms of its Glucocorticosteroid effects, Prednisone four times as potent as Cortisol.
Therapeutic Uses for Prednisone
Immune System
Prednisone is used in the treatment of severe Allergies.
Prednisone is used in the treatment of Autoimmune Diseases (e.g. Rheumatoid Arthritis) to suppress the overactivity of the Immune System that occurs during Autoimmune Diseases.
Prednisone is used to alleviate Inflammation.
Prednisone is used in the treatment of Leukemia.
Musculoskeletal System
Prednisone (5 - 20 mg per day for four weeks then tapered back down to 10 mg per day by 2.5 mg increments per four weeks, then taped down by 1 mg increments each month for a further ten months) alleviates the symptoms of Polymyalgia Rheumatica. [1]
