Biological Function of Alpha-Keto Acids

Metabolism

Alpha-Keto Acids are intermediate products in the endogenous production of Amino Acids:

Via the process of transamination, Amino Groups are transferred from Amino Acids to Alpha-Keto Acids, thereby producing a new Amino Acid.

Alpha-Keto Acids can be utilized in the endogenous production of Glucose.

Alpha-Keto Acids can be utilized within the Krebs Cycle for the endogenous production of Energy.
