Ferritin
Overview
Ferritin is a type of Iron storage Protein. It is a Ferric Hydroxide-Phosphate-Protein complex (Metalloprotein) that contains 23% Iron.
Biological Function and Health Benefits of Ferritin
Cardiovascular System
Ferritin may be useful for the treatment of iron deficiency Anemia.
Hair
Ferritin may help to prevent/treat Alopecia Areata. [1]
Minerals
Ferritin is the form in which Iron is stored after conversion to Ferrous Oxide and bound to Transferrin - an endogenous Globulin within some areas of the body - specifically in the Bone Marrow, Intestinal Wall; Liver and Spleen:
It is noteworthy that Iron stored as Ferritin is incapable of initiating Free Radical reactions. Ferritin thereby inhibits the ability of Iron to cause some types of Cardiovascular Diseases.
Ferritin carries Iron from its endogenous storage sites to the Red Blood Cells.
