Description

Transferrin is an Metalloprotein Globulin found in the Blood Plasma.

 

Biological Function of Transferrin

 Transferrin transports Chromium around the body (however Transferrin preferentially transports Iron around the body).  [1]

 Transferrin binds to the endogenous Ferritin form of Iron and is responsible for its transportation to the Bone Marrow where it is utilized in the manufacture of Hemoglobin (Transferrin functions as an Iron-Transporting Protein).  At any given time approximately 0.1% of the body’s total Iron content exists in the form of Transferrin.
