Fluorine
Description
Fluorine is a Micromineral that was once regarded as “probably being essential”. More recent evidence indicates that Fluorine is NOT essential for humans. It is present in the human body in the form of Fluoride.
Health Benefits of (topical) Fluoride
Generally, Fluoride’s only health benefits occur when it is applied topically to the Teeth. Oral supplementation is not recommended. No human disease has ever been linked with a Fluoride deficiency.
Oral Health
Fluoride (applied topically) may inhibit the Enzymes in acid-producing Bacteria in the Mouth, reducing the risk of Tooth Decay. [1]
Fluoride (applied topically) may facilitate proper Tooth Enamel formation. [2]
Toxic Effects of Excessive Fluoride Consumption
The symptoms of excessive Fluoride consumption are known as Fluorosis.
Aging Process
Excessive Fluoride may accelerate the progression of the Aging Process. [3]
Digestive System
Excessive Fluoride may increase the risk of Gastritis. [4]
Excretory System
Excessive Fluoride may damage the Kidneys. [5]
Immune System
Excessive Fluoride may increase the risk of Liver Cancer. [6]
Excessive Fluoride may increase the risk of Osteosarcoma. [7]
Excessive Fluoride may increase the risk of Thyroid Cancer. [8]
Metabolism
Excessive Fluoride may cause Goiter. [9]
Excessive Fluoride may damage the Liver. [10]
Excessive Fluoride may slow down Thyroid function which may lead to Hypothyroidism. [11]
Musculoskeletal System
Excessive Fluoride may cause Arthralgia (Joint Pain). This occurs as a symptom of Skeletal Fluorosis.
Excessive Fluoride may damage Bones. (Bone damage caused by excessive Fluoride is known as Skeletal Fluorosis). [12]
Excessive Fluoride may cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Excessive Fluoride may increase the risk of Fractures. [13]
Excessive Fluoride may increase the risk of Fractures in Osteoporosis patients. [14]
Nervous System
Excessive Fluoride may impair Attention Span. [15]
Excessive Fluoride may cause Brain damage. [16]
Excessive Fluoride may damage the Hippocampus. [17]
Excessive Fluoride may reduce Intelligence. [18]
Excessive Fluoride may accumulate in and damage the Pineal Gland and may interfere with the Pineal Gland’s production of Melatonin. [19]
Oral Health
Excessive Fluoride may damage the Enamel-forming cells (ameloblasts) of the Teeth, leading to increased porosity of the Enamel and reduced Mineral content of the Teeth (known as Dental Fluorosis and characterized by white spots or yellow-brown staining and loss of Enamel). [20]
