Acetylcholinesterase
Overview
Acetylcholinesterase is the most common type of Cholinesterase Esterase Hydrolase Enzyme present in the Synaptic Cleft of Neurons - Acetylcholinesterase is manufactured by the Liver.
Biological Function of Acetylcholinesterase
Nervous System
Acetylcholinesterase breaks (hydrolyzes) Acetylcholine down into its constituents - Choline (which is subsequently utilized in the production of fresh Acetylcholine) and Acetic Acid - so that subsequent Nerve Impulses can pass.
These Substances may Inhibit Acetylcholinesterase
Alkaloids
Capsaicin may inhibit the activity of Acetylcholinesterase. [1]
Chacocine may inhibit the production of Acetylcholinesterase.
Chaconine may inhibit the production of Acetylcholinesterase.
Huperzine A may inhibit Acetylcholinesterase: [2]
Clinical studies have determined that Huperzine A is a more effective Cholinesterase Inhibitor than the drugs Aricept, Galanthamine and Tacrine.
Huperzine A is highly specific for Brain Acetylcholinesterase (it [desirably] has little effect on Acetylcholinesterase in other regions of the body).
Huperzine A has a longer duration of action than other Cholinesterase Inhibitors.
Solanine may inhibit the production of Acetylcholinesterase.

Cholinesterase Inhibitors inhibit the production and activity of Acetylcholinesterase:
Aricept potently inhibits the Acetylcholinesterase (Ache) enzyme - Aricept (unlike most other AChE Inhibitors) appears to be selective for central (rather than peripheral) AChE.
