Description

Dehydration is the loss or deficiency of Water from/in the body's Tissues.  Technically, Dehydration occurs when the loss of Water from the body equals 1% of the body’s weight.

These Substances may Alleviate Dehydration

Alcohols

Endurance Athletes sometimes ingest large quantities of Glycerol (in order to induce Water retention) immediately prior to Endurance Exercise in order to prevent Dehydration - the usual dosage of Glycerol used by endurance athletes is 1 gram of Glycerol per kilogram of body weight:  [1]

Glycerol attracts Water and readily permeates Cell Membranes by causing a change in pressure across Cell Membranes.  It therefore counteracts the Dehydration sustained by endurance athletes (especially when endurance Exercise is conducted in warm - hot temperatures).

Lipids

Dehydration may occur as a result of Linoleic Acid (LA) deficiency.

Minerals

Dehydration may occur as a result of extreme Potassium deficiency.
