Description
Endorphins are a group of Opioids that are manufactured in and released by the Pituitary Gland. They function as endogenous Analgesics and are chemically similar to Morphine.
Biological Functions of Endorphins
Nervous System
Endorphins release causes Euphoria (e.g. during "runner's high").
Endorphins alleviate Pain by binding to Mu Opioid Receptors located on Neurons within the Brain and Spinal Cord. [1]
Additional Endorphins are produced during periods of Stress.
