Inhibitory Neurotransmitters are a group of Neurotransmitters that inhibit the flow of Nerve Impulses between Neurons. Inhibitory Neurotransmitters are responsible for about one third of all messages transmitted by Neurons.

Inhibitory Neurotransmitters serve to prevent over-excitation by Stimulatory Neurotransmitters (if it were not for Inhibitory Neurotransmitters, the Stimulatory Neurotransmitters would rapidly run out-of-control, sending out signals faster and faster until the entire Nervous System became totally exhausted).
