Description
Nicotinic Receptors are a sub-type of Cholinergic Receptors. Nicotinic Receptors are most prominent in numbers in the Medial Habenula; Interpeduncular Nucleus; Thalamus; Substantia Nigra (accounting for Nicotine's addictive potential); Ventral Tegmental Area - projections from the Ventral Tegmental Area to the Nucleus Accumbens are important for the mediation of reward with the release of Dopamine. Nicotinic Receptors are also located in the Hippocampus and Nucleus Accumbens of the Brain.
