Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Description
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia is a form of Chronic Leukemia. It is characterized by uncontrolled proliferation and enlargement of Lymphoid Tissue in various sites (the Lymph Nodes, Spleen, Bone Marrow, Lungs) and increased numbers of adult Lymphocytes (especially B-Lymphocytes but occasionally T-Lymphocytes) in the Blood. The survival of CLL patients varies from one to twenty years, depending on the stage of disease when it is diagnosed and the growth rate of the malignant cells. Many CLL patients live normal lives for many years.
Prevalence
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia is more common in men than in women.
90% of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia patients are aged 50 or over.
