Cancer - Cellular Mechanisms
Description
This topic describes the underlying methods by which Cancer affects and spreads through the body at a cellular, genetic level.
Cellular Mechanisms of Cancer Development
Apoptosis
The process of (normal) Apoptosis facilitates the necessary “killing” and removal of Cancer cells - the Aging Process is associated with a failure of (normal) Apoptosis to kill and remove Cancer cells. [1]
Cardiovascular System
Abnormalities in Blood Clotting are a feature of many types of Cancer (especially Lung Cancer) - this excessive Blood Clotting enhances the metastasis of Cancer cells. [2]
Cell Differentiation
In the absence of Cell Differentiation, uncontrolled Cancer growth can occur - Cell Differentiation provides Cells with “job descriptions”.
Free Radicals
Damage to the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) content of Cells (induced by Free Radicals) has been proposed as an important underlying factor for the initiation of Cancer. [3]
