Oncogenes
Description
Oncogenes are damaged (mutated) forms of Proto-Oncogenes.
Toxic Biological Actions of Oncogenes
Immune System
Oncogenes are implicated in the development of many forms of Cancer:
Oncogenes (being mutated Proto-Oncogenes) stimulate Cell Division - Cell Division of mutated Cells is an underlying mechanism of Cancer.
Proteins coded by Oncogenes convey a “false” message to the Nucleus of a Cells - this message “tells” the Nucleus that the Cell is functioning correctly (when it is not), thereby preventing the Cell from “committing suicide” via the process of Apoptosis (programmed Cell death).
