Description

Bile Salts are a component of Bile.

Biological Function of Bile Salts

Digestive System

Bile Salts facilitate the emulsification of Fats - Dietary prior to their further digestion:

(Synthetic) Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) require fewer Bile Salts for their emulsification than natural Triglycerides (due to their relatively short Fatty Acid chains that cause them to be more water-soluble than naturally occurring Triglycerides).

Bile Salts may help to prevent Gallstones (by preventing the incorporation of Cholesterol into Gallstones).

Types of Bile Salts

 Sodium Glycocholate

 Sodium Taurocholate
