Description

Varicose Veins are are a disorder in which the Veins (usually in the Legs) become distended, lengthened and tortuous.  The underlying cause of Varicose Veins is a lack of tone in the tissues supporting the Vein and subsequent failure in the valves further up (usually) the leg.

Varicose Veins are a manifestation of Venous Insufficiency.

Prevalence  [1]

Varicose Veins are up to four times more prevalent in women than in men.

Approximately 10% of the population of Western nations are afflicted with Varicose Veins by the age of 30.

More than 30% of persons in the age group 60 - 70 are afflicted with Varicose Veins (in the USA).

Varicose Veins affect 20% to 25% of women and 10% to 15% of men at any given time.

These Substances may Alleviate/Prevent Varicose Veins

As Venous Insufficiencyis the most common underlying cause of Varicose Veins, treatments that alleviate or prevent Venous Insufficiency are also likely to alleviate or prevent Varicose Veins.

Amino Acids

Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetate (EDTA) - the synthetic Amino Acid used in Chelation Therapy – may alleviate Varicose Veins.  [2]

Enzymes

Supplemental Proteases (as used in Enzyme Therapy) may alleviate the Pain, Inflammation and overall discomfort of Varicose Veins.  [3]

Optimal Tissue Plasminogen Activator (TPA) levels may prevent the occurrence of Varicose Veins.

Growth Factors

Supplemental Skin Respiratory Factor (applied topically) may alleviate Varicose Veins (by increasing the supply of Oxygen to Fibroblasts) (according to anecdotal reports).
