Metronidazole

Metronidazole is a type of Anti-Protozoal and Antibiotic Pharmaceutical Drug.

Digestive System

 Metronidazole is sometimes used for the treatment of Crohn's Disease.

 Metronidazole (500 mg twice or three times per day = 1,000 - 1,500 mg per day) may be useful for the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (it reduces the bacterial overgrowth associated with Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth Syndrome which has been found to be an underlying cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome).  ^[1]

 Metronidazole (500 mg twice or three times per day = 1,000 - 1,500 mg per day) may reduce the bacterial overgrowth associated with Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth Syndrome.

Immune System

 Metronidazole inhibits/kills some types of Bacteria - Detrimental including:

 Bacteroides fragilis

 Clostridium species

 Entamoeba histolytica
