Streptococcus pneumoniae
Also known as: Diplococcus pneumoniae; Pneumococci; Pneumonococcus
Description
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a strain of Detrimental Streptococcus Bacteria that normally resides within the Respiratory Tract. Streptococcus pneumoniae produces an exotoxin named Pneumolysin.
These Substances may Inhibit Streptococcus pneumoniae
Amino Acids
N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) may inhibit the proliferation of Streptococcus pneumoniae (especially in the bronchial tissue of smokers with chronic Bronchitis). [1]
Carbohydrates
Xylitol may suppress Streptococcus pneumoniae. [2]
Microorganisms
Lactobacillus casei may minimize the toxicity of Streptococcus pneumoniae. [3]
Minerals
Silver may kill Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Zinc deficiency may increase the risk of Streptococcus pneumoniae infection and Zinc supplementation may reduce the severity of Streptococcus pneumoniae infections. [4]
Prescribed Medications
Amoxicillin kills Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Biostim helps to prevent infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. [5]
Prescribed Medications
Penicillins and Cephalosporins suppress Streptococcus pneumoniae:
It is noteworthy that Streptococcus pneumoniae is becoming increasingly resistant to treatment with Penicillins and Cephalosporins. Prior to 1980 over 99% of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria were suppressed by Penicillins and Cephalosporins. Since then Streptococcus pneumoniae has developed a high level of resistance to these Pharmaceutical Antibiotics. [6]
