Description
Cyclooxygenase-2 is one of the two forms of Cyclooxygenase. It is the undesirable form of Cyclooxygenase.
Toxic Effects of Cyclooxygenase-2
Immune System
Excessive Cyclooxygenase-2 production/activity may cause Colon Cancer. [1]
Excessive Cyclooxygenase-2 production/activity may be implicated in Esophageal Cancer. [2]
Excessive Cyclooxyggenase-2 activity/production may cause Liver Cancer. [3]
Excessive Cyclooxygenase-2 production/activity may cause Pancreatic Cancer. [4]
Excessive Cyclooxygenase-2 production/activity may be implicated in Prostate Cancer. [5]
Cyclooxygenase-2 stimulates the conversion of Arachidonic Acid (AA) to the Eicosanoids that are involved in Inflammation processes - such as Prostaglandin E2.
Nervous System
Cyclooxygenase-2 may be involved in the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease. [6]
These Substances may Inhibit Cyclooxygenase-2
Enzymes
Bromelain may inhibit the activity of Cyclooxygenase-2. [7]
Hormones
Melatonin (after its conversion within the body to further metabolites) may inhibit Cyclooxygenase-2. [8]
