Glycosides

Overview

Glycosides are a diverse group of organic compounds that consist of a Monosaccharide (usually Glucose or Galactose) linked to another molecule such as an Alcohol, Glycerol, Sterol, Phenol or another Monosaccharide.  Glycosides that contain Glucose are known as Glucosides and Glycosides that contain Galactose are known as Galactosides.  Many Polyphenols and Saponins are consumed in the diet in the form of Glycosides.
