Biological Function of Cytochrome C

Metabolism

Cytochrome C participates in the body’s Electron Transport System (ETS) where it transports electrons from Complex III to Complex IV (Cytochrome C Oxidase).

These Substances may Enhance the Function of Cytochrome C

Polyphenols

Quercetin may increase the production of Cytochrome C.  [1]

Quinones

Coenzyme Q10 may enhance the function of Cytochrome C.  [2]

These Factors may Interfere with Cytochrome C

Exercise

Exercise (beyond a few minutes of maximum exertion) may cause the depletion of Cytochrome C to a far greater extent than does inactivity.  [3]

Bioavailability

Presently, there is no evidence that supplemental Cytochrome C is bioavailable to the human body (in all likelihood Cytochrome C introduced into the body via supplementation will not reach Muscle Fibers).  [4]
