Cytochrome C Oxidase
Also known as: Complex IV; Cytochrome aa3; Ferrocytochrome C:Oxygen Oxidoreductase; Indophenol Oxidase; Indophenolase
Description
Cytochrome C Oxidase is an Enzyme involved in the Electron Transport System (ETS).
Biological Function of Cytochrome C Oxidase
Metabolism
Cytochrome C Oxidase is intimately invovled in the body’s production of Energy (the decreased activity of this enzyme that occurs with age is believed to be responsible for the reduced Energy experienced with aging). [1]
Cytochrome C Oxidase functions as the last Hydrogen electron carrier within the Electron Transport System, receiving an electron from Cytochromes and passing it on to Oxygen.
