Overview

Creatine Phosphate is an endogenous Phosphagen that is a compound of Creatine and Phosphoric Acid (Phosphate) formed in the body’s Muscles.

Biological Function of Creatine Phosphate

Cells

Impaired function of the Mitochondria (Mitochondrial Cytopathy) is associated with low Creatine Phosphate levels in the Mitochondria (CreatineMonohydrate supplementation helps to restore low Creatine Phosphate levels to normal in people with impaired function of the Mitochondria).  [1]

Metabolism

Creatine Phosphate is involved in the provision of Energy to the muscles by acting as the carrier vehicle for Phosphorus in the form of Phosphate for the production of Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP) [2] which is further metabolized to Adenosine Triphosphate(ATP) [3] as part of the Krebs Cycle of Energy production:

After the Phosphorus component of Creatine Phosphate has been transferred to ADP, the remaining Creatine is excreted in the Urine as Creatinine.

Fatigue is often accompanied by markedly lowered levels of Creatine Phosphate.  [4]
