Description
The Cochlea is a spiral sub-component of the Inner Ear (labyrinth). The Organ of Corti (which contains Hair Cells) coils around the Cochlea.

The Cochlea is responsible for the reception and analysis of sound (i.e. it is essential to the sense of Hearing):
The Cochlea transmits Nerve Impulses relating to the Sense of Hearing to the Brain via the Cochlear Nerve.
