Dorsal Horn
Also known as: Posterior Root Ganglion; Dorsal Root
Description
The Dorsal Horn is a component of the Spinal Cord.
Biological Function of the Dorsal Horn
Nervous System
Nerve Impulses from Sensory Nerves are conducted to their Presynaptic Terminals (on Axons) located in the Dorsal Horn of the Spinal Cord.
These Substances Influence the Dorsal Horn
Neurotransmitters
Norepinephrine (NE) travels via a descending pathway that originates in the Locus Coeruleus of the Medulla of the Brain and terminates in the Dorsal Horn of the Spinal Cord to inhibit the release of Substance P (the Neuropeptide that initiates Nerve Impulses relating to Pain).
