Description
The Ventral Tegmentum is a component of the Midbrain. It has physical, Dopamine-utilizing connections (fibers) to the Nucleus Accumbens.

Alkaloids
Caffeine may stimulate the activity of various Neurotransmitters within the Ventral Tegmentum. [1]
Neuropeptides
Opioids may indirectly activate Dopamine Receptors in the Ventral Tegmentum region of the Brain, resulting in increased Sexual Desire (libido). [2]
Neurotransmitters
Dopamine governs the function of many of the Neurons within the Ventral Tegmentum - the Ventral Tegmentum contains a large quantity of Dopaminergic Neurons (i.e. Neurons that utilize Dopamine).
