Description

Goblet Cells are specialized column-shaped secretory Cells that are found within the of the Intestines, Lungs and Conjunctiva of the Eyes.

 

Goblet Cells Enhance the Function of these Substances

Carbohydrates

 Goblet Cells are responsible for the endogenous production of the N-Acetyl-Glucosamine (NAG) form of Glucosamine.

 

Proteins

 Goblet Cells are responsible for the production and secretion of Mucin (a major component of Mucous) within the Intestines, Lungs and Eyes.

 

Ailments Associated with Goblet Cells

Eyes/Vision

 Loss of Goblet Cells from the Conjunctiva of the Eyes can be an underlying cause of Dry Eyes (Goblet Cells are responsible for the production of Mucin that lubricates the outer Eyes).
