Fatigue - Causes

This section outlines the numerous causes of Fatigue.

Alcohol-Related Disorders

 Hangovers may cause Fatigue (approximately 20% of persons with a Hangover report feelings of Fatigue).  ^[1]

Cardiovascular System

 Fatigue may occur as a result of Anemia.

 Fatigue may occur as a symptom of poor Blood Circulation.

Cells

 Impaired Mitochondrial function (known medically as Mitochondrial Cytopathy) may occur as an underlying cause of many cases of (both physical and mental) Fatigue.  ^[2]

Digestive System

 Crohn’s Disease may cause Fatigue.  ^[3]

 Hypochlorhydria may cause Fatigue.

        Malabsorption (inability to absorb nutrients) may occur as an underlying cause of some cases of Fatigue.

 Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth Syndrome may be an underlying cause of Fatigue.  ^[4]

Immune System

 Allergiesmay cause the release of excessive Histamine from the body's Mast Cells that then manifests in the form of mild Fatigue.  ^[5]

 Excessive Fatigue may occur as one of the symptoms of Brucellosis.

 Chronic Fatigue may be a symptom of Cancer:

 Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia may cause Fatigue

 Candida albicans proliferation may cause Fatigue.

 General Fatigue may be a symptom of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

 Glandular Fever may cause extreme Fatigue (this is a primary symptom of Glandular Fever).

 Hepatitis C may cause severe Fatigue.  ^[6]

 Fatigue may occur as a result of the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) form of the Autoimmune Disease - Lupus Erythematosus.

 Fatigue may occur as a symptom of Lyme Disease.

Metabolism

 Fatigue may occur as a result of Adrenal Insufficiency.  ^[7]

 Fatigue may occur as the primary symptom of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) - the usual definition of Fatigue used for the diagnosis of CFS is Fatigue of new onset lasting more than six months with a 50% reduction in activity.
