The Androgens (Androstenedione, Dehydroepiandrosterone, Testosterone and most potently, Dihydrotestosterone) that are implicated in Male Pattern Baldness affect the Hair Follicles in some fashion (little understood at present) that causes them to be read as Antigens (foreign bodies) by the Immune System which then mounts an "attack" - utilizing Auto-Antibodies against Hair Follicles.
