Description

IgM is a type of Antibody (an Immunoglobulin) that is the largest of all of the Antibodies.  IgM comprises 5% of the total Antibody content of Blood Plasma.

 

Biological Functions of IgM

Immune System

 IgM is a powerful activator of Complement (an endogenous Immune System Protein) that destroys Bacteria - Detrimental that enter the bloodstream.

 IgM helps to prevent recurrent Respiratory Tract Infections (patients with sub-optimal IgM levels generally experience recurrent Respiratory Tract Infections).  [1]
