Roundworms
Description
Roundworms, known as Nematodes, are any one of a large group of Worms (Intestinal Parasites) having an unsegmented round body which tapers at both ends. Some of the largest roundworms are 6 to 12 inches long. The mature female roundworm can produce an estimated 200,000 eggs daily. Their natural habitat within the human body is the Small Intestine.
Nematodes have a body cavity, which distinguishes them from Tapeworms and Flukes.
Prevalence
It has been estimated that the Roundworm has infected at least 644 million people worldwide (this estimate was done in the 1940s).
