Platelet-Derived Growth Factor

Also known as:  PDGF

Platelet-Derived Growth Factor is a type of Growth Factor that is located in Platelets.  It is a Glycoprotein.

Cells

 PDGF stimulates the normal reproduction of Cells (mitosis) at the site of Wounds:

 PDGF stimulates the proliferation/repair of the Endothelium (inner walls of Blood Vessels) at the site of Wounds.

 PDGF facilitates the proliferation of Fibroblasts.

 PDGF facilitates the proliferation of Glial Cells.

 PDGF facilitates the proliferation of Smooth Muscle Cells.

Proteins

 Whey Protein contains very small quantities of PDGF.

Pharmaceutical Products

 PDGF is the active constituent of Regranex Gel, a Pharmaceutical product manufactured by McNeil Pharmaceuticals.  It is used to accelerate the healing of Wounds.
