Description
Ion Channels are specific macromolecular Protein pathways, with an aqueous “pore” that traverse the Lipid bilayer of Cell Membranes. Many of the activities of Ion Channels are regulated by Second Messengers.

Ion Channels maintain or modulate the electrical potential across the Lipid bilayers of Cell Membranes by allowing the controlled influx or exit of small inorganic Ions such as Sodium Ions, Potassium Ions, Chloride Ions or Calcium Ions.
