Description
Propranolol is a type of water-soluble Beta-blocker (non-selective).
Therapeutic Uses of Propranolol
Cardiovascular System
Propranolol may lower Blood Pressure (by blocking the Adrenaline Receptor sites in the Muscles) and is therefore prescribed for the treatment of High Blood Pressure. [1]
Propranolol may alleviate Tachycardia by slowing the Heartbeat rate.
Nervous System
Propranolol may prevent the biochemical responses within the Beta-Adrenergic Nervous System that occur as a result of Adrenaline release during Anxiety, Fear, Phobias & Stage-Fright (by blocking the Beta-Adrenergic Receptor sites for Adrenaline in the Muscles, thereby preventing the increase in Heartbeat rate and Blood Pressure that occurs as part of the “fight or flight” response induced by Adrenaline release).
