Quinolones

Also known as:  Fluoroquinolones

Quinolones are a group of Pharmaceutical Antibiotics (from the Nucleic Acid Synthesis Inhibitors class).  The most important Quinolones are synthetic fluorinated analogs of Nalidixic Acid.

Immune System

 Quinolones are prescribed to inhibit/kill various types of Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria - Detrimental.

 Quinolones block the synthesis of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) in various forms of Detrimental Bacteria by inhibiting the enzyme DNA Gyrase.  This inhibition of DNA Gyrase prevents the relaxation of supercoiled DNA that is required for normal transcription and replication.
