Gabapentin
Also known as: GABA-pentin
Description
Gabapentin is a type of Pharmaceutical Antiepileptic (Anticonvulsant) Drug. Gabapentin is structurally related to Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) - an Inhibitory Neurotransmitter - but does not interact with GABA receptors, is not converted metabolically into a GABA Agonist and is not an inhibitor of GABA reuptake or degradation. Gabapentin exerts similar effects to GABA. Chemically, Gabapentin is formed by the addition of a Cyclohexyl group to the backbone of GABA.
