Chia Seeds
Overview
The Chia plant is native to Southwestern North America, Mexico and Central America. All species of Chia are from the Mint (Lamiaceae or Labiatae) family. They are very small and covered with a brown seed coat that is further covered by a Mucilage.
Botanical Name
Hyptis suaveolens species is native to Mexico.
Salvia benth species is native to semi-arid mountain regions of California and Arizona.
