The underlying mechanism for Lorenzo’s Oil in the treatment of Adrenoleukodystrophy is that the constituents of Lorenzo’s Oil (Erucic Acid and Oleic Acid) compete with Long Chain Saturated Fatty Acids as substrates for the Elongase enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of Long Chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids into the Very Long Chain Saturated Fatty Acids that are implicated in Adrenoleukodystrophy.
