Description
Saponifiable Lipids are the major group of Lipids that are derived from the diet - i.e. this group includes the Fatty Acids, Glycerides and Phospholipids. Chemically, Saponifiable Lipids are defined as those Lipids that can be hydrolyzed by a base. Saponifiable Lipids are comprised of Lipid Alcohols bonded to Fatty Acids and (in the case of Compound Lipids) further bonded to other substances (such as Phosphorus or Galactose).
