Cholinesterases hydrolyze (break apart with water) and destroy excessive Acetylcholine after Acetylcholine has generated its Nerve Impulse via Cholinergic Receptors on the Postsynaptic Membrane of Dendrites of Neurons (by splitting the Acetylcholine molecule into Choline and Acetic Acid).
