Negative Feedback Mechanism

Negative Feedback Mechanism is a term used to describe the mechanism by which the  excessive endogenous production of a substance (e.g. Thyroxine), causes a shutdown of the process by which that substance is produced by inhibiting the production or release of its precursor chemicals.  Negative Feedback is an important means by which the body maintains Homeostasis.  Use of exogenous analogs of natural hormones etc. can also cause Negative Feedback Mechanism that inhibits the endogenous production of the natural substance.
