Overview

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic compound with two phenol functional groups. Bisphenol A is found mostly in plastics labeled with the recycling codes 3 or 7. Bisphenol A is used in the production of polycarbonate plastic and used in the coating inside of food and beverage cans. Bisphenol A exposure happens mostly through the digestion of food and liquids that have been stored in or heated in plastic materials. Bisphenol A exerts estrogenic activity and considered an endocrine disruptor.
