Overview

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) is a hormone similar to Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). EGF is a polypeptide that contains 53 Amino Acid residues.

Biological Function of EGF

Sexual System (male)

EGF may stimulate the growth of Prostate tissue.

Excessive EGF activity in the Prostate is partially responsible for the development of Enlarged Prostate

Skin

EGF may stimulate the growth and repair of the Epidermis of the Skin.  [1]

EGF may stimulate the growth of Fibroblasts.  [2]

EGF may accelerate the healing of Wounds (and exogenous EGF applied topically may also be effective for this purpose).  [3]

EGF may Enhance the Function of these Substances

Glycosaminoglycans

EGF may stimulate the production of Hyaluronic Acid in the Skin’s Fibroblasts.  [4]

These Substances may Enhance the Function of EGF

Patented Medicines

Vitamin A Derivatives (e.g. Retin-A) may increase the number of receptors for Epidermal Growth Factor.  [5]

Vitamins

Vitamin A may increase the number of Skin Cell Receptors for EGF.  [6]
