Description
Melanosomes are oval pigment (containing) granules produced by Melanocytes.
Biological Function of Melanosomes
Hair
Melanosomes contain and deliver Melanin to the Hair (and are therefore involved in the maintenance of Hair Color).
Hair Color is dependent upon the number and type of Melanosomes that are present in the Cortex of the Hair:
Brown or black Hair contains many Eumelanosomes (Melanosomes that contain Eumelanin).
