Description

Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide is a type of Polypeptide Neuropeptide Hormone that derives its name from the fact that it is transcribed (produced) from the same Gene that produces Calcitonin.  CGRP is found in the Nervous System, Heart, Lungs, Thyroid and Gastrointestinal Tract.

Cardiovascular System

Nervous System

 CGRP may function as a (minor) Neurotransmitters (it is widely distributed in the Central Nervous System and the Peripheral Nervous System).  [2]

 

Forms of CGRP

 Both forms of CGRP perform similar functions in the body.  b-CGRP differs from a-CGRP at only three positions in its Amino Acid sequence.
