Soma

Description

The Soma is the Cell body of Neurons - it contains the Nucleus of the Neuron.  Several Dendrites (each of which can branch profusely and receive several thousand contacts from other Neurons) extend from each Soma.  Usually only one Axon extends from each Soma, however it may have many side branches that conduct Nerve Impulses to as many as 10,000 other Neurons (resulting in Divergence of Information).
