Oral Mucosa is the Mucous Membrane that lines the surfaces in the Mouth (including the Mucous Membranes that line the Tongue and the Gums).

Food Additives
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) - the active Detergent in many commercial Toothpastes - may increase the incidence of desquamation and irritation of the Oral Mucosa (Toothpastes that contain Cocoamidopropyl-Betaine (CAPB) as their Detergent do NOT damage the Oral Mucosa).
Other Factors that may Interfere with the Oral Mucosa
Aging Process
The Oral Mucosa becomes thinner in tandem with the progression of the Aging Process. [1]
