Reverse T3
Also known as: Reverse Triiodothyronine; RT3
Description
Reverse T3 is a modified inactive form of the the Thyroid Hormone, Triiodothyronine. Reverse T3 differs from Triiodothyronine in that the missing (deiodinated) Iodine is from the inner ring of the Thyroxine molecule (compared with the outer ring for Triiodothyronine).
These Substances may Increase the Production of Reverse T3
Hormones
Cortisol inhibits the conversion of Thyroxine (T4) to Triiodothyronine (T3), instead shunting Thyroxine (T4) conversion to Reverse T3.
These Ailments may be Associated with Increased Reverse T3 Levels
Elevated Reverse T3 levels is known as Reverse T3 Dominance.
Cardiovascular System
High levels or Reverse T3 may increase the risk of (ventricular) Tachycardia. [1]
Metabolism
High levels of Reverse T3 are common in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) patients. [2]
