Description

Euthyroid Sick Syndrome is a syndrome characterized by low circulating Triiodothyronine (T3) levels in spite of normal Thyroid Gland function.  This differentiates Euthyroid Sick Syndrome from Hypothyroidism.

 

The principal underlying cause of  Euthyroid Sick Syndrome is impaired peripheral conversion (in the Liver and Kidneys) of Thyroxine to Triiodothyronine.
