Antimicrobial Peptides are a group of endogenous Peptides.

 

Function of Antimicrobial Peptides

 Antimicrobial Peptides kill a broad-spectrum of Microorganisms - Detrimental by forming spores (similar to drilling holes) in their membranes:

 AMP rapidly damage the lipoprotein membranes of microbial targets.  Both the epithelium, in which they form a protective shield in mucus, and professional Phagocytes, in which they provide microbicidal activity within the phagolysosome, produce AMPs.
